Three new ‘Border Haats’ are likely to be set up in Tripura to boost local trade with neighboring nation Bangladesh.
A joint meeting held between the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of Bangladesh and District Magistrates (DMs) of Tripura decided that the proposed sites for the Border Haats would be Jagatrampur in Sepahijala, Paharmura in Khowai and Bamutia in Khowai district.

After visiting the proposed spots, the representatives would submit reports to the Ministries of Industries of both the countries, India and Bangladesh and the due procedure would be followed.
It may be mentioned here that the DCs and DMs of Tripura and Bangladesh also discussed several important topics, including border fencing, human trafficking, drugs smuggling, import-export of goods and setting up of more Border Haats.

The officials also discussed the Agartala- Akhuara rail link project in the meeting that took place on Wednesday. The Indian delegation was led by District Magistrate West Dr. Sandeep N. Mahatme while Deputy Commissioner of Comilla district- Md. Abul Fazal Mir led the Bangladesh delegates.
District Magistrate West along with DMs of Khowai and Sepahijala, police chiefs of three districts, West, Khowai and Sepahijala and other officials of Tripura were also present in the crucial meeting.

Similarly, Deputy Commissioners and police chiefs of four districts- Moulvibazar, Comilla, Habiganj and Brahmanbaria along with other officials were part of the Bangladesh delegation. The officials of BSF and BGB were also present in the DM-DC level meeting.
Addressing media, the DM West also stated that a decision was taken in the meeting to curb human trafficking and drugs smuggling in both countries.
Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner of Comilla said that a decision was taken in the meeting that the governments of Bangladesh and India would work together to solve the prevailing issues.

The delegates of both the countries laid stress on fencing the unfenced stretches of Indo-Bangla international border to prevent border crimes along with infiltration and smuggling.
