With 16 people tested positive for COVID-19 in Tripura, the total cases rose to 152 in the state, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said.

All the fresh cases including nine children were reported from 86th battalion headquarters of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Ambasa in Dhalai district in the state.

Taking stock of the matter, Chief Minister Biplap Kumar Deb tweeted.

“16 persons found #COVID19 POSITIVE in Tripura from 86th-Bn #BSF (Official:1, Female:6, Children: 9). We are conducting max number of tests. 75 Samples from 3rd-Bn BSF tested but all reports are NEGATIVE (sic)".

Meanwhile, two other patients, an ambulance driver, and a trucker had left for West Bengal’s Siliguri and Assam’s Karimganj respectively before their test reports had come. They have been designated as ‘transferred patients’.

However, on a positive aspect, the first two COVID-19 patients in the state have been cured of the disease and discharged from hospitals in April.

The sharp and sudden rise in the COVID-19 cases in the state has prompted CM Deb to reconsider the government’s strategy to prevent the spread of the lethal virus. Government has put it all effort to bring the situation under control, an official said.

The lethal virus has infected a total of 67,152 persons while claimed 2,206 lives across the country so far.

It is pertinent to be mention that India is currently under the third phase of lockdown. The complete lockdown was partially withdrawn in the green zone areas on May 4. The first phase of lockdown was enforced on March 25 for 21 days following the second phase from April 14 for 19 days.
