Tripura Suspends Entry of Passengers via Agartala Immigration Land Check Post from Midnight to March 31

Agartala, March 22, 2020:

The Tripura Government has decided to suspend the entry of passengers through the Agartala Immigration Land Check post with effect from Sunday midnight to March 31.

"...in exercise of powers under section 2 of the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 read with section 38 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, it is hereby ordered that movement of passengers through Agartala Immigration Land Check Post shall remain suspended with effect from midnight today upto 31 March 2020, except for the official and diplomatic passport holders," stated an official notification issued by the Home Department of Tripura.

However, the cargo vehicles will be allowed to ply normally with due precautions to maintain the supply of commodities.

The Tripura Education and parliamentary affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath also announced the closure of all the educational institutes, with effect from March 17, until March 31. Tripura State Government has also shut down cinema halls, gymnasiums, and swimming pools until March 31.

It may be mentioned here that India has recorded a total of 341 confirmed cases of coronavirus according to https://www.worldometers.info/ Maharashtra has 63 cases (including 3 foreigners), followed by Kerala with 52 cases (including 7 foreign nationals).

Globally, 308,594 cases of coronavirus have been reported. 13,069 deaths have been reported so far. China, Italy, USA, Spain, Germany, Iran, France, South Korea, Switzerland and the UK are the ten countries with the highest number of cases in the world.

All the shops across Assam will remain closed on Monday, the day after the nation-wide Janata Curfew. Speaking on the lines of the ‘Vyapar Bandh’ or business shutdown on Monday, the Jorhat CITU General Secretary said, “Although we have welcomed the decision of the Assam Chamber of Commerce, we also have to keep in mind that the daily utilities’ prices will see a sharp increase in the coming days. Back to back two days of Bandh will certainly impact the business.”
