Tripura Teacher Hailed as Corona Warrior for Donating 25% Salary to Daily Wage Laborers

At a time when the entire nation, gripped by the fear of the deadly coronavirus (or COVID-19 is retreating indoors and only venturing forth to stock up on supplies in order to avoid getting an infection, an Tripura school teacher, Moonmoon  has been lauded as a hero of the working class for announcing to donate 25% of her salary to the daily wage labourers.

It is believed that her attempt would further inspire people to come out and lend similar help to the people in need. This is especially necessary in a state like Tripura where lion's share of the population is dependent on agriculture and other allied works.

Deb, who hails from Kamalpur sub division under Dhalai district in Tripura, has decided to donate 25 percent of her next month's salary for the daily wage earners so that they can quarantine themselves at home and break the chain of COVID-19 infection. The Kamalpur based teacher announced her humanitarian move via her social media handle after she wrote to the Chief Minister, informing about her decision.

In her message, the teacher wrote, “In this time of crisis, a section of people are asking about the people who need to work everyday for make both ends meet. Demands have been also raised to initiate some relief for them so that they can stay at home with no worries of food and essentials. But, it is not your duty alone. I have decided, as a responsible and sincere citizen of this state, to donate 25 percent of my salary for the people in need”, Deb wrote on her social media handle.

As soon as she posted her message addressing the Chief Minister, people from all section of the society showered praise upon her and hailed her move.

In due time, some of her acquaintances also decided to come forth to help. Some even demanded formation of a separate relief fund for this crisis only so that people can donate towards the needy.

Eminent Journalist Manas Pal, who also hails from Kamalpur, hailed her move and opined that government might go for a special relief fund for this Corona calamity where civilians can also donate funds to help those in need. He also hoped that if a school teacher could go to such an extent to help the needy people the “business community and people who can afford” might also join the initiative.
