AGARTALA: A youth in Tripura identified as Abhiranjan Tripura has been awarded 7 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs Rs 17,000 by a local court of South Tripura for committing rape and attempt to murder a mother of four children.
He was convicted for the offence committed in September 2019 at Malumbari hamlet of Manirampur ADC Village in Hrishyamukh of Belonia.

District and session Judge Udit Chowdhury of South Tripura sentenced the prisoner to seven years in jail under sections 457, 376, 511, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
According to reports, Abhiranjan Tripura sneaked into the house of the victim at midnight, taking advantage of the victim's husband's absence, and committed the crime.
Reports suggest that the children had been sleeping next to her when she was awoken and raised resistance; Abhiranjan had reportedly attempted but failed to kill her. he managed to flee from the spot in the dark.

The victim went to the Belonia police station the next morning and lodged a complaint against the accused.
After a long hearing and testimonies of the case, the court sentenced him to two years in prison prison and a fine of Rs 5,000 under IPC section 451, one year in prison and a fine of Rs 2,000 under section 506 of the IPC, and seven years in prison under IPC section 354 (B).
