OTTAWA: In a Cabinet reshuffle in Canada's Ontario province,  two  more Indo-Canadian politicians were appointed as ministers, bringing the total number of community members in the Executive Council to three.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford reshuffled his Cabinet on Friday, former finance minister Rod Phillips who resigned his post following a Caribbean vacation during the COVID-19 outbreak, return as the new minister of long-term care.

Ontario now boasts the most Indo-Canadian cabinet ministers of any province in the country, according to the sources. It equals the record of three, which was set in Ontario under Kathleen Wynne's previous Liberal Party government.

The reshuffles comes just under a year before the provincial election in June of next year.

There was one Indo-Canadian in the previous ministry, Prabmeet Sarkariya, who was the associate minister of small business and red tape reduction.

Sarkariya, 30, has been promoted to the position of Treasury Board president.

He is Ontario's first Sikh Cabinet minister to wear a turban.

I am dedicated to working hard with Premier @fordnation and my colleagues to support Ontarians as we continue to tackle the #COVID19 pandemic & work towards our recovery! ," Mr Sarkariya tweeted taking over the new role.

Parm Gill, is the other minister who has been appointed the minister of citizenship and multiculturalism.

Nina Tangri, one of the two Indo-Canadian recruits, will now be in charge of his previous portfolio.
