NEW DELHI: Former Indian Cricketer Virendar Sehwag on Monday took a jibe at the 'hypocrisy' of cricket fans and the ban on Diwali celebrations by questioning the bursting of firecrackers after Pakistan defeated India at the T20 World Cup Match.
Taking to Twitter, the former Indian opener wrote, "Firecrackers are banned during Diwali but yesterday in parts of India there were firecrackers to celebrate Pakistan ‘s victory. Achha they must have been celebrating victory of cricket. Toh, what’s the harm in fireworks on Diwali. Hypocrisy kyun ,Saara gyaan tab hi yaad aata hai."
The tweet went viral within moments and the netizens were all in praise for Sehwag for voicing out.
Sehwag's remark comes come after Pakistan defeated India by 10 wickets in their World Cup opener at the Dubai International Stadium.
Previously, Kohli had shared a video on his social media handles to advise public to ensure a safe Diwali and avoid bursting of firecrackers during the festival.
However, Kohli's advise was not taken well by the netizens who trolled him for his remark and asked him to focus on cricket.
