Weekend curfew imposed in Delhi; malls, gyms, spas to remain closed till April 30

NEW DELHI: Amid rising cases of COVID-19, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal today imposed a weekend curfew in the national capital.

It will be effective from 10 pm tomorrow till 5 am on Monday.

On the other hand, the chief minister also announced closure of shopping malls, gymnasiums, spas, auditoriums, assembly halls, entertainment parks and similar places till April 30.

However, cinema halls, theatres and multiplexes will be permitted to open with 30 per cent of their capacity till April 30.

Only one weekly market per day per zone in all three municipal corporations, New Delhi Municipal Council and Delhi Cantonment Board will be allowed to open with the strict compliance with COVID guidelines.

Though there will be no in-house dining, restaurants will be allowed to operate home delivery and take away services. Bars will remain closed till April 30.

During the weekend curfew, movement of people for wedding related (up to 50 people) and funeral related (up to 20 people) gatherings will be allowed.

People going to airports, railway stations and lSBTs will be allowed to proceed on production of valid tickets.

Those going for vaccination will be required to apply for a curfew pass.

People dealing in food, groceries, fruits, vegetables and dairy products will also have to seek a curfew pass for their movement.

Public transport such as the metro, buses, autorickshaws and taxis will be allowed to function within the stipulated time for the transportation of only those who have been exempted from the weekend curfew.

Delhi recorded the biggest single day spike in its COVID-19 tally on Wednesday with 17,282 new cases, while 104 more people died due to the disease.

The virus has killed 513 people in the national capital in the first 14 days of April, while it claimed 117 lives in March and 57 in February.
