WILLIAMNAGAR: The East Garo Hills district administration has imposed a weekend lockdown in the district, in the wake of rapid increase in COVID-19 cases.
The lockdown will be in place from 10 pm tonight till 5 am on Monday.
The lockdown has been imposed to put in place preventive measures so that the disease does not spread to the entire district and other parts of the Garo Hills.
During the period of lockdown, no vehicular movement will be permitted, except for essential services. Movement of vehicles and persons from other state has also been restricted.
Moreover, all markets in the district shall remain closed during the lockdown period.
However, pharmacies are allowed to operate during the period.
On the other hand, all banks, postal services and private offices shall remain closed.

Restaurants, liquor shops, cafes, etc. will also remain closed.
Petrol depots have been also allowed to operate during the lockdown period.
