West Sikkim Govt Schools Tie Up with IIT-IIM Graduate Designed Mathematics Learning Program

Government schools in West Sikkim have adopted an advanced Mathematics Learning Program designed to boost learning outcomes in Mathematics.

The West District Administration has tied up with Butterfly Fields, a social enterprise founded by IIT Mumbai and IIM Ahmedabad Graduate, Sharat Chandra in order to improve the learning outcomes in Mathematics for primary schools.

A 4-day training session was conducted for the schools by the Hyderabad-based Butterfly Edu Fields.

The training was attended by all the primary mathematics teachers of 218 schools in the Government Girls’ Senior Secondary School, Kyongsa and Government Senior Secondary School, Soreng.

As per an internal survey of the Education department and one conducted by NITI Aayog, the learning outcome in Mathematics was poor.

In order to improve the learning outcomes in Government Schools across the district, the ambitious project was launched to train all the teachers on new methods of pedagogy, so as to make the classes more interactive and fun.

The program was inaugurated by District Collector Karma R Bonpo in presence of many officials of the Education Department of West Sikkim.

Sharat Chandra-founded Butterfly Edufields offers innovative ‘hands-on-learning’ programs and ‘Do It Yourself’ (DIY) kits, tailored for school Science and Math curriculum for grades 1 to 10. These programs have earlier demonstrated an improvement of 30% in student scores.

West Sikkim administration will be providing the DIY kits to all the schools in order to improve the Math scores in government schools.
