By stopping ration to Brus, the State Govt has committed legal offence and also violated the Human Rights, said Maharaja Pradyot Manikya to the Bru refugees while visiting Kanchanpur, on Wednesday.

Pradyot Manikya visited Kanchanpur Bru camps on Wednesday, along with other indigenous leaders. While Pradyot reached there, the people of Bru communities welcomed him wholeheartedly. Pradyot talked with them and listened to their sufferings.

Addressing the crowd, Pradyot said, “This is your land and nobody can forced you to leave. The Reang people those who lost their lands due to Dumbur Hydro power plant at Amarpur subdivision in Tripura, migrated to some parts of Mizoram”.

He said Tripura has enough land to accommodate the refugees within the state, and stated that he will discuss it with Tripura and Mizoram government.

Pradyot said, “Article 21 of Indian Constitution gives us the right to food. And by stopping ration to Bru camps, the Government had violated our rights”.

Pradyot further assured that he will file a writ petition to Tripura High Court on this issue. He also said that he will discuss the situation with the indigenous lawyers after reaching Tripura.

The Maharaja urged the Bru refugee peoples to maintain peace and unity with the other communities.
