"80 fake encounter cases, CM will be arrested": Akhil Gogoi slams Himanta Biswa Sarma

In a late-night address ahead of the Assembly elections, Raijor Dal leader and MLA Akhil Gogoi launched a sharp offensive against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the ruling BJP government, and leadership of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), accusing them of betraying public trust and failing the people of Assam.

Gogoi arrived late at night in Kaliabor, Assam, where he addressed a large gathering of party supporters, Congress workers, and local leaders at the residence of Pradip Kumar Barua, the Raijor Dal candidate from the 57 No. Kaliabor Assembly constituency.

During his speech, Gogoi strongly criticized the BJP-led government over its handling of microfinance loans. He alleged that the Chief Minister had earlier promised a complete waiver of loans taken by women from microfinance institutions but failed to deliver on that assurance.

“The women of Assam were deceived. If our government comes to power, we will ensure that within six months, all microfinance loans of every woman in the state are completely waived,” Gogoi declared, drawing loud applause from the gathering.

Escalating his attack, Gogoi made serious allegations against the Chief Minister, claiming that multiple cases related to alleged “fake encounters” would be pursued.

“Around 80 cases of fake encounters will be filed, and Himanta Biswa Sarma will be arrested,” he asserted, in one of the most controversial remarks of the evening.

The Raijor Dal leader also targeted senior AGP leaders, including party president Atul Bora and working president Keshab Mahanta, accusing them of compromising regional interests.

“They bowed before Delhi out of greed for ministerial positions,” Gogoi alleged, questioning the autonomy and political stance of the AGP leadership.

Outlining his party’s welfare agenda, Gogoi promised a substantial increase in financial assistance under the Orunodoi Scheme, stating that beneficiaries would receive ₹3,000 if an opposition alliance government is formed.

He further pledged aggressive measures to tackle unemployment, announcing plans to establish industries in every village across Assam.

The rally marks a continuation of intensified campaigning in Kaliabor, with political rhetoric sharpening as parties vie for voter support in the crucial Vidhan Sabha constituency.
