Assam BTC election: UPPL holds major rally in Fakiragram, over 1000 including Congress leader switch sides

The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) witnessed a major boost to its campaign in Fakiragram on Thursday, September 11 as more than a thousand people, including Fakiragram Block Congress Committee President Sahar Ali, joined the party during a high-energy election rally.

Addressing the gathering, UPPL President and Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Chief Pramod Boro expressed strong confidence in the party’s electoral prospects. He claimed the UPPL is set to secure 25 to 27 seats in the upcoming polls, enabling it to form the government independently.

“There is no reason for doubt—UPPL will form the government on its own,” Boro asserted, adding that the party enjoys grassroots support across the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC). According to him, in every constituency of the BTC, between 7,000 and 8,000 families are members of the UPPL. If these families cast their votes, each UPPL candidate could expect to secure between 28,000 and 30,000 votes, he said.

The rally was held in support of Afzal Haque Sarkar, the UPPL’s nominated candidate from the Fakiragram Non-Tribal Constituency. The large-scale joining of Sahar Ali and his supporters is being seen as a significant political gain for the UPPL ahead of the elections.
