Assam elections: 886 polling stations set as teams move out with EVMs in Jorhat district

Polling parties carrying Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and election materials began departing for various polling stations across Jorhat district on April 8, marking a crucial step in preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections.

Deputy Commissioner Jay Shivani said that arrangements are in full swing for all three constituencies in the district—Jorhat, Titabor, and Mariani—which together comprise 886 polling stations. Distribution of polling materials is currently underway at designated centres.

“We are at the Government Boys’ School ground where polling personnel from Jorhat, Titabor, and Mariani constituencies are collecting their materials,” Shivani said, adding that a separate distribution centre has been set up at the Government Girls’ School for the Teok constituency. “Polling personnel for 249 stations are collecting their materials from there,” she noted.

The administration has also undertaken last-minute infrastructure work to ensure smooth access to polling stations. “We restored roads leading to several polling locations overnight to facilitate movement,” the Deputy Commissioner added.

Officials expressed confidence that all logistical arrangements are being executed efficiently to ensure a smooth and orderly polling process across the district.
