Assam: Polling teams and EVMs dispatched for second phase of voting in Darrang

As the political battleground heats up in Assam, the state gears up for the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections slated for April 26. With five constituencies, namely Karimganj, Silchar, Nagaon, Diphu and Darrang, set to cast their votes, anticipation mounts as key players vie for dominance in this crucial electoral phase.

The focus of attention in this phase remains on constituencies like Karimganj and Nagaon, where the influence of religious demographics is expected to play a significant role in shaping the outcome, akin to past elections.

Karimganj:

With a substantial Muslim population estimated at 65%, Karimganj presents a complex political landscape. Historically a Congress and AIUDF stronghold, the BJP managed to secure victory in 2019, leveraging support from Hindu and other voters. However, the recent delimitation has opened up new possibilities, prompting both major parties to intensify their campaign efforts.

Silchar:

Silchar, a bastion of Bengali voters, witnesses a longstanding battle between the BJP and Congress. Traditionally a Congress stronghold, the BJP's rising influence has made this contest particularly intriguing. With TMC also entering the fray, the electoral dynamics in Silchar have become even more nuanced.

Nowgong:

Another fiercely contested constituency, Nowgong, mirrors the state's diverse demographics. With a significant Muslim population, the BJP's efforts to consolidate support have intensified, even as Congress aims to retain its foothold. The presence of AIUDF adds further complexity to an already tightly contested race.

Diphu/Autonomous District:

Diphu, a constituency reserved for Scheduled Tribes, is a melting pot of tribal communities. With BJP, Congress, and ASDC vying for supremacy, the electoral landscape reflects the region's unique socio-political dynamics.

Darrang-Udalguri:

A mix of Bodo, Koch-Rajbongshi, and other communities, Darrang-Udalguri remains a battleground constituency. With BJP, Congress, and BPF locking horns, the contest here is multifaceted, with each party eyeing crucial segments to bolster its chances of victory.
