Assam polls: Independent candidate Chakradhar Das threatens to upset NDA math in Bongaigaon seat
The electoral contest in the Bongaigaon Assembly constituency is gradually becoming more competitive, with independent candidate Chakradhar Das emerging as a factor that could influence the outcome for the NDA nominee Diptimayee Choudhury.
Chakradhar Das, who had earlier sought the BJP ticket from the constituency, entered the fray as an independent after the seat was allotted to the Asom Gana Parishad under the alliance arrangement. Despite contesting independently, Das has stated that his allegiance remains with the BJP.
Positioning himself as an agent of change, Das claimed that voters in Bongaigaon are seeking to move away from what he described as four decades of dominance by a single political family. He expressed confidence that the electorate would support him in the upcoming polls.
Highlighting the agrarian character of the constituency, Das has chosen cauliflower as his election symbol. He said his campaign is focused on key local issues, including severe traffic congestion in Bongaigaon town, the need for alternative road connectivity, challenges faced by farmers, and overall development of the constituency.
With multiple candidates in the fray and shifting political dynamics, the Bongaigaon seat is shaping up to be closely watched in the upcoming elections.
