Assam: Sewli Mohilary thanks voters after Kokrajhar win, signals readiness for larger role

Sewli Mohilary registered a resounding victory in the Kokrajhar Assembly constituency on May 4, defeating sitting MLA Lawrence Islary by a margin of 38,699 votes.

Reacting after the result, she expressed heartfelt gratitude to voters for their support and blessings, thanking those who placed their trust in her leadership. She said the victory reflects the faith of the people in the party’s work and its commitment to public welfare.

Mohilary further stated that she would be willing to take on greater responsibilities if given an opportunity, adding that she would be ready to serve as a minister to work for the development of women across the state as well as in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

Emphasising women’s empowerment, she said focused initiatives and welfare schemes are essential to strengthen the socio-economic condition of women across the region.

She highlighted the need to expand access to education, employment and support systems to ensure sustained progress.

Mohilary is the wife of Hagrama Mohilary, Chief Executive Member of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), and her victory is being seen as significant in the region’s political landscape.
