Congress candidate in Karimganj Hafiz Rashid Chowdhury claims EVM malpractice

A video allegedly showing two individuals casting multiple votes in an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) has sparked controversy and raised questions about the integrity of the voting process. The incident, which occurred at a polling center under the Karimganj Lok Sabha constituency during the second phase of elections, has garnered widespread attention after going viral on social media platforms.

In the video, the two voters can be seen repeatedly casting their votes for the Lotus symbol (BJP), leading to concerns about the possibility of malpractice. This incident has caused a stir among the public, especially regarding how such actions could occur under the watch of the presiding officer and other polling staff at the polling station.

The video has prompted demands for a thorough investigation by the District Returning Officer to determine the authenticity of the footage and to address any potential irregularities in the voting process at the said polling station.

Reacting to this, Congress candidate Hafiz Rashid Chowdhury expressed serious concerns during a press conference. He accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of engaging in widespread malpractice, describing it as detrimental to democracy. Chowdhury emphasized the importance of upholding democratic principles, the constitution, and secularism, urging all parties to refrain from such actions that undermine the integrity of the electoral process.

"We are fighting democracy, constitution, and secularism. That's why I appeal to them to not do such acts”, says Chowdhary.

The allegations and the viral video have added an element of controversy to the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
