Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi faces backlash over statement on Majuli, Pijush Hazarika takes a dig

Amidst the heightened election fever gripping the state of Assam, Congress candidate Gaurav Gogoi has found himself at the center of a controversy. As the campaign efforts intensified across the state, Gogoi, the Congress candidate for the Majuli assembly constituency, made statements that have sparked a backlash and drawn condemnation from State Minister Piyush Hazarika.

Gogoi's remarks came during a campaign event where he addressed the ongoing debate surrounding a proposed government initiative. "The people of Majuli said they did not need a bridge. When we were in government, we proposed the construction of a bridge but at that time the parties and local people opposed it. Therefore, we slowly moved forward with the construction of the bridge through negotiations, emphasizing democracy," Gogoi stated.

Reacting strongly to Gogoi's remarks, state minister Piyush Hazarika strongly reacted to Gogoi’s statement, stating, "By stating that people of Majuli don't need a bridge is actually an insult to the residents of Majuli. Are the people of Majuli so blind that they will say they don't need a bridge? There were no roads in Majuli during the Congress era. It was only during the days of Sarbananda Sonowal that Majuli got another look”, says Hazarika.

Hazarika further adds “How many times did Gaurav Gogoi speak about the problems of Kaliabar in the house when he was the MP of Kaliabor? How much development was made in Kaliabor? How many times did he go to the constituency?

Further, Hazarika also comments that many Congress workers complained that Gaurav Gogoi does not answer calls easily. There are many difficulties faced by the leaders and workers of the party. Thus, giving reasons why many of its members have resigned from the party.

Gogoi's comments have not only caused a stir within political circles but have also raised concerns among Congress workers. Many party members allege difficulty in reaching Gogoi directly to address their grievances, further complicating the situation.
