Dhubri records massive 92.68 per cent voter turnout as Assam Assembly polls conclude peacefully

Demonstrating an extraordinary commitment to the democratic process, Dhubri district recorded a staggering 92.68 per cent overall voter turnout in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections.

The polling process across five key constituencies concluded on a peaceful note today, with citizens braving geographical challenges to cast their ballots in record numbers. The district's enthusiasm was reflected in the high participation rates across all five assembly segments.

Golakganj led the charge with a remarkable 94.52% turnout, followed closely by Gauripur at 93.56%. Birsing Jarua 93.09%, Dhubri 91.95% and Bilasipara 89.56%.

According to the March 15 ERONet update, a massive electorate of 12,20,384 voters was eligible to participate. To facilitate this, the district administration deployed a robust network of 1,548 polling stations, including 285 stations located in remote "char" (river island) areas reachable only by boat.

Immediately following the conclusion of the polls, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were transported under tight security by Presiding and Polling Officers. All machines are on process and will be deposited in designated strong rooms established at PC Institution HS School.

These facilities will remain under 24/7 surveillance until the counting of votes begins on May 4. District Commissioner Megh Nidhi Dahal expressed high satisfaction with the day's proceedings, noting that the entire exercise was conducted without any major incidents of violence or disruption.

"We are deeply grateful to the voters of Dhubri for their enthusiastic participation. Reaching a turnout of nearly 93% is a testament to the awareness and civic duty of this district," said Dahal, District Commissioner Dhubri.

Authorities added that final figures might see a slight upward revision once all data from remote riverine stations are fully tabulated. As the EVMs remain sealed, the focus now shifts to the results day, which will determine the political future of the 33 candidates vying for these five critical seats.
