United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) chief and Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro on September 16 extended his wishes to former BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary for his oath-taking ceremony but quipped that he should not “end up crying at home if unable to take oath.”
Boro made the remarks while addressing an election rally at Bhutiapara under the Chirang constituency in support of UPPL candidate Saikhong Basumatary. Speaking at the rally, Boro said that despite ruling for 17 years with the support of both the Congress and BJP, Hagrama Mohilary and his Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) failed to restore peace in the region.
“In the past five years, the UPPL has been able to establish permanent peace in the BTC. We have built harmony and brotherhood among the 26 communities of the region. For the sake of peace and development, I urge people to vote for the UPPL,” he said.

Asserting confidence, Boro said the UPPL will form the council with an absolute majority. He alleged that successive state governments have neglected the councils, and political leaders only visit BTC for political statements before leaving. “It is only recently that land laws and pattas were finally issued in BTC, after years of neglect,” he noted.
Highlighting the sacrifices that led to the formation of the Sixth Schedule Council, Boro said Bodoland cannot be allowed to remain a hotspot of violence. “It is not possible to keep Bodoland burning forever,” he remarked, adding that governance will depend on the number of seats secured in the upcoming polls.
Taking a swipe at his rival, Boro said, “I extend my best wishes to Hagrama Mohilary for his oath-taking. But if you cannot take the oath, please do not end up crying at home.”
