“Double-engine government has failed rural Assam”: Residents of Margherita LAC allege neglect
In a scathing allegation ahead of the Assembly elections, residents of the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly Constituency in Tinsukia district have accused the BJP-led double-engine government of being ineffective in addressing rural issues.
Villagers say that even in the 21st century, indigenous communities in Assam continue to suffer severe hardships. While the world celebrates technological advancements, locals claim they are still struggling for basic infrastructure like a single functional bridge.
The situation in Pangna and Bandatola villages under Ward No. 8 of Ketetong Gaon Panchayat paints a grim picture. Despite 78 years of India’s independence, residents allege that their long-standing problems remain unresolved.
The villages reportedly face poor road connectivity, with dilapidated pathways and a fragile bamboo bridge serving as the only means of transport. Access to clean drinking water remains inadequate, and several women in the area claim they have been left out of the Orunodoi welfare scheme.
Home to over 100 indigenous households, including Assamese, Adivasi, and Singpho communities, the villages continue to struggle with basic amenities.
Locals have also expressed disappointment with the Margherita co-district administration, the area MLA, and representatives of the Ketetong Gaon Panchayat, alleging a lack of concern and action.
With elections around the corner, residents say leaders will soon arrive seeking votes, but this time, they are determined to respond strongly through their mandate.
