Goalpara officers spot 'BJP' on paper slips accompanying EVMs to polling stations
A section of presiding officers has expressed concern after reportedly noticing paper slips bearing the word “BJP” on some EVMs being transported to polling stations in Goalpara.
The observation led to unease among certain officials, who raised the issues with higher authorities, so as to avoid any form of confusion ahead of the polls.
Meanwhile, the district authorities have completed logistical arrangements, and polling personnel have already departed from the office of the District Commissioner to their designated polling stations. Officials confirmed that voting will take place across 1,010 polling stations in the district.
Polling for the Assam Assembly elections is scheduled to be held on Thursday, April 9 with preparations in full swing across Goalpara district. A total of 8.65 lakh voters across four Assembly constituencies will exercise their franchise to determine the electoral fate of 31 candidates.
According to the District Commissioner, 80 polling stations will be managed entirely by women personnel, while the remaining 930 stations will be overseen by male staff. The deployment is part of broader administrative efforts to ensure smooth and inclusive polling operations.
Polling and presiding officers were seen leaving for their respective locations carrying Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and other necessary election materials. Security arrangements have also been put in place to facilitate orderly conduct of voting.
Authorities are expected to monitor the situation closely to ensure that the polling process remains free, fair, and transparent.
