Manipur embraces sustainability in poll process, innovates electric vehicles, eco-friendly materials

As Manipur braces for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on April 19th and 26th, Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East, Khumanthem Diana Devi, sheds light on the extensive preparations and special measures in place to ensure smooth and secure polling.

Devi outlined the preparations in Imphal East district, stating, "We have a total of 441 polling stations, including 9 special polling stations. Extensive exercises were conducted to assess the vulnerability of these polling stations, following which security deployment has been strategically arranged."

In a move towards sustainability, green initiatives have been integrated into the election process. Devi mentioned, "We have introduced electric vehicles in two assembly constituencies and are maximizing the use of eco-friendly materials throughout the conduct of polls."

A notable initiative has been the introduction of home voting for individuals above 85 years of age and those with disabilities, ensuring their right to vote without inconvenience. Special attention has been given to vulnerable and critical polling stations, with the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and additional security measures. "18 CAPF companies have been deployed, and Army and commandos will be stationed at sensitive locations to handle any law and order situations," Devi added.

Furthermore, special provisions have been made for internally displaced people in the district. "We have set up 9 special polling stations to accommodate internally displaced individuals, ensuring their participation in the electoral process," Devi emphasized.
