"People want to change the Hitler-like BJP govt in Assam": Akhil Gogoi
President of Raijor Dal, Akhil Gogoi on Tuesday, April 7 said that voters in Assam are looking towards the upcoming elections to support opposition parties and bring political change in the state.
Addressing reporters in Guwahati, Gogoi claimed that public sentiment is shifting against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He alleged that the current government in Assam resembles an authoritarian system and stated that people are “waiting for April 9” to exercise their franchise in favour of the opposition.
Commenting on remarks made by Congress leader Pawan Khera, Gogoi criticised Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing him of avoiding direct responses to allegations and relying on law enforcement and legal mechanisms.
“The language used by the Chief Minister is akin to that of the police. He often takes shelter behind police action and court processes,” Gogoi said. He further alleged that questions raised by opposition leaders, including Khera, remain unanswered and should be addressed directly by the Chief Minister.
Gogoi also made claims regarding alleged asset accumulation linked to the Chief Minister’s family, stating that such issues require clarification. He added that the opposition remains confident about electoral prospects, asserting that they will form the next government in the state.
