Pradyot Manikya Deb Barma joins Hagrama Mohilary in BTR campaign trail

The election heat in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) intensified today with the arrival of Tripura’s royal scion and statesman, Pradyot Manikya Deb Barma, who joined Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) chief Hagrama Mohilary in the campaign trail.

Deb Barma, popularly regarded as the Maharaja of Tripura and a strong voice for indigenous rights, took part in electioneering in the Srirampur constituency, where Mohilary himself is leading the campaign.

The roadshow and public meetings drew large gatherings, with supporters cheering the entry of a leader from neighbouring Tripura into the BPF’s campaign.

The presence of Deb Barma, who heads the Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA) in Tripura, is seen as a boost for Mohilary, as the BPF looks to strengthen its grip ahead of the crucial BTC elections.

Over the past weeks, Hagrama Mohilary has been widening his political network by roping in leaders from neighbouring states to rally support for the BPF.

By bringing in influential figures like Deb Barma, Mohilary is not only seeking to consolidate his position in the BTR but also projecting the BPF as a party that commands recognition beyond Assam’s borders.

As the campaign moves deeper into constituencies, today’s joint appearance in Srirampur underlined the growing regional alliances being stitched together in the run-up to the polls, giving the BPF campaign both colour and momentum.
