Priyanka Gandhi Vadra accuses BJP of 'Mafia Raj' in Assam

Congress National General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra landed in Assam to rally for the upcoming elections for Congress today. She led a rally in Balajan, Dhubri at 10 am while backing Congress candidate Rakibul Hussain in the Dhubri constituency.

Gandhi alleged a 'mafia raj' in Assam under the BJP's rule. She directly targeted Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asserting that serious charges against him vanished into thin air when he switched from the Congress to the BJP. Her statement, "There is 'mafia raj' in Assam...There were serious charges against your CM when he was in the Congress party. As soon as he switched to BJP, all charges against him were washed off. BJP has developed a washing machine where corrupt people are put...Your CM was the first one in this regard..."

This isn't Gandhi Vadra's first foray into Assam's political arena. Her earlier visit on April 16 focused on drumming up support for Gaurav Gogoi, the Congress candidate for the Jorhat assembly seat.

She further said, "This govt is entirely focussed on its interests...They are not bothered about the struggles of the public...Unemployment is the highest today. 70 crore people are unemployed..."

As Assam gears up for the third phase of Lok Sabha elections with 47 candidates contesting across four constituencies, the political atmosphere is charged with anticipation. With the final phase scheduled for May 7, the state braces for a significant electoral showdown, with parties intensifying their campaigns to secure voter support.
