Protest erupts in Manipur's Moirang after deadly blast; Police station stormed, trucks torched

Tensions spiralled in Moirang after angry protesters took to the streets following a deadly bomb attack in Tronglaobi village of Bishnupur district, storming the local police station, torching trucks, and blocking key roads.

The unrest comes in the wake of a tragic early morning attack in Moirang Tronglaobi, where suspected Kuki militants allegedly fired a projectile that struck a residential house.

The explosion killed two young children—a five-year-old boy and his five-month-old sister—while their mother sustained injuries.

Outraged by the incident, a large number of residents gathered in protest, accusing authorities of failing to ensure civilian safety despite repeated assurances of peace and normalcy in Manipur.

Demonstrators stormed the Moirang Police Station premises and set ablaze at least three trucks carrying essential goods. Road blockades were also reported, disrupting movement in the area.

Protesters voiced deep frustration and fear, questioning how long they would have to continue living under constant threat and uncertainty amid recurring violence along the hill-valley fringes.

The MLA of the Moirang Assembly constituency visited the affected area to assess the situation and condemned the attack, while security forces have been deployed in large numbers to contain the unrest and prevent further escalation.
