Another accolade to young playwright-lyricist-scriptwriter and journalist Rajdweep who has been conferred 2018-19 Best Drama Award for his play "Bandukor Kobita" (poetry of guns) which is based on the insurgency.
As a prominent lyricist for Assamese as well as Bollywood movies like "Jagga Jasoos", "A Death In The Gunj" etc. and having been honoured by Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan for his screenplay "Ishqology", Rajdweep continues to weave magic in the mobile theatre industry.
After setting a new trend with his career's second play "Boliya Krishna", Rajdweep has proved that the mobile theatre industry can depend on new playwrights.
Taking this new ideology forward, Rajdweep has now been conferred the 'Best Drama Award'.
All Assam Sahitya Sanmilan has presented this award to Rajdweep's play "Bondukor Kobita" written for Hengool Theatres, the prominent mobile theatre group dedicated in the memory of the two shining stars of Assamese culture Prashanta Hazarika and Ila Kakati. The Sanmilan has conferred this special award to the playwright.
It may be noted that the young playwright's play has been selected from among the various plays that are being enacted at different parts of the state by the various mobile theatre groups.
The play titled "Bandukor Kobita" had been a topic of discussion among theatre-lovers ever since its first enactment this year. The main attractions of this play are its content and powerful dialogues. The play is based on a heart touching love story in the backdrop of the insurgency problem in the state.
"Bandukor Kobita" is about the love story of a simple young man who loves writing poetry but is forced to follow the path of insurgency. Rajdweep has presented a powerful story in his play ""Bandukor Kobita" in a mobile theatre industry which had been recently prey to allegations of becoming only glamour and visual effects-centric.
The public has embraced the playwrit's ambition of providing new and fulfilling content.
Acknowledging this contribution, the All Assam Sahitya Sanmilan has presented the Best Drama Award to "Bandukor Kobita".
It is worth mentioning that Rajdweep started his journey as playwrit with an unconventional play titled "Akou Adin" for Hengool Theatres in the year 2014-15.
In recent years, Rajdweep has written a number of plays dealing with different and unorthodox subject matters. His play "Bonoriya" dealing with the political scenario of the state, "Breaking News" about the media industry, and "Bauli Mur Priya" highlighting the power of love over religion has undoubtedly brought in a wave of new and progressive thinking.
The theatre-lovers are hopeful of getting the satisfaction of viewing many such good plays from Rajdweep in the future.
