Assam Designer Sanjukta Dutta's silk gown lights up Cannes

Guwahati, May 20, 2019:

Assam’s celebrated fashion designer Sanjukta Dutta, has made her debut at the 72nd edition of Cannes Film Festival with 'Top Model United Kingdom Winner' and 'Miss Film Festival International', Ingrida Imagine, wearing a stunning handcrafted Assam silk gown at the red carpet.

Sanjukta Dutta took it to the social media platform to express her feelings on the occasion. She shared a post on her Facebook handle and wrote, “A big day for Assamese Paat (Silk), I believe.”

Sanjukta had earlier designed stunning Assam’s “Mekhela Chador” for popular Bollywood celebrities like Priyanka Chopra, Bipasha Basu, Dia Mirza, Zareen Khan, Preity Zinta, Tabu, Karisma Kapoor, Hema Malini, Esha Deol, among others.

The celebrated fashion designer was conferred with the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Excellence Awards 2018 in best fashion designer of the year category. She hails from Nagaon district of Assam and completed her bachelors of Engineering from Assam Engineering College in 1995. Later, she joined the public works department (PWD) as an assistant engineer before becoming a fashion designer.

She is also known for empowering rural artisans and reviving the Assamese handicraft industry with her stunning designs on the world stage.
