While talking to mediapersons about the ongoing protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act being held across the country during trailer launch of her upcoming film “Panga“, Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut said that people instigating violence in name of democracy are still hung on to pre-independence era.

"The condition of this country is such that there are so many, who are dying of malnutrition. So it's not correct for people to instigate violence and in the name of democracy, we are still hung on to pre-Independence era", she said.

At the same time, Ranaut sought support for the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi while he has come under severe attacks for passing the contentious legislation, despite staunch opposition to it. Kangana said, "Our leader came from a very small place and with a lot of difficulties made something of himself with hard work, and we have won on his merits and he has written everything in his manifesto and then won, and now when he is fulfilling everything he promised, that’s democracy, is it not? So this doesn’t happen, you cannot be a sore loser."

While Kangana seems to be against the violence on the streets in the name of CAA protests, many other Bollywood celebrities have voiced out against the controversial legislation.

Artistes such as Richa Chadha, Sayani Gupta, Huma Qureshi, Anurag Kashyap, and Parineeti Chopra started tweeting out against the police brutality in Delhi, showing their unequivocal support towards peaceful protesters, criticising the BJP’s Citizenship Amendment Act.
