Bollywood Superstar Amitabh Bachchan Turns 77 Today

Bollywood legend and heartthrob of millions, Amitabh Bachchan, (also knows as 'Big B') has celebrated his 77th birthday today. Amitabh Bachchan has acted in over two hundred films in a career spanning over five decades.

Big B's daughter Shweta Bachchan was the first one to wish her dad on his special day. Taking to Instagram she wrote: "When you get to the top of the mountain, keep climbing- Happy Birthday Papa I love you endlessly."

Meanwhile, Bachchan thanked his fans and well-wishers for the warm wishes that he has received on his birthday.

"My immense gratitude and gratefulness to them that send their wishes for the 11th .. I cannot possibly thank each one individually .. but each one of you reside in my heart .. my love to you", the Bollywood legend wrote on Twitter.

The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri in 1984, the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015 for his contributions to the arts. The Government of France honoured him with its highest civilian honour, Knight of the Legion of Honour, in 2007 for his exceptional career in the world of cinema and beyond. Bachchan also made an appearance in a Hollywood film, Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby (2013), in which he played a non-Indian Jewish character, Meyer Wolfsheim.
