Assamese designer Sanjukta Dutta, known for her contribution in the revival of handloom and providing a livelihood to the artisans of Assam, is being presented with Dadasaheb Phalke Excellence Award 2018. The Award will be conferred on April 21 at St. Andrews Auditorium, Mumbai.
Designer Sanjukta Dutta is a name synonymous with Mekhela Chador and revival of handloom in Assam, while giving a meaning of livelihood to Assamese artisans. It all began with her love for the traditional outfit and her wish to revive the art of meaning in Assam.
She is one of the first designers to be felicitated with this honor as a part of the ‘She Can Fly’ initiative of Smile Foundation, the Charity partner for Dadasaheb Phalke Excellence Award 2018. ‘She Can Fly’ is an initiative of Smile Foundation to enable, equip, empower girl child with quality education, proper nutrition, good health, adequate skills and above all a lot of self confidence to help them live their lives to their fullest potential. The initiative will also focus on bringing attention to pay gaps that affect women in the Bollywood industry.
