After conquering Coachella and Paris Fashion Week, global music sensation Diljit Dosanjh has now etched his name into the annals of high fashion history by making a memorable debut at the 2025 Met Gala. Walking alongside Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan and actress Kiara Advani, Diljit stole the spotlight with a look that was both culturally rooted and sartorially daring.
Designed by Prabal Gurung, Dosanjh’s ensemble embodied the grandeur of a modern-day Maharaja. Dressed head-to-toe in ivory, he paired a crisp white turban with a striking long cape inscribed with Punjabi alphabets—an unmissable tribute to his roots. The addition of statement jewellery and a traditional sword further elevated his regal appearance, perfectly capturing the evening’s theme of historical resonance and tailored elegance.
This year’s Met Gala theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”, draws inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s influential 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. The dress code, “Tailored for You,” places emphasis on menswear and suiting—a bold move marking the first time in over two decades that the Met Gala has centered exclusively on men’s fashion.
"This theme is not only timely but also speaks to our rich culture that should always be widely celebrated," noted Gala committee member and Grammy-winning artist Usher.
Co-chaired by style trailblazers including Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and the ever-iconic Anna Wintour—with LeBron James as honorary co-chair—the event was a powerful homage to cultural storytelling through fashion. The Metropolitan Museum of Art described the exhibit as “a cultural and historical examination of black style from the 18th Century to today, through the lens of dandyism.”
Diljit Dosanjh’s presence at the event marked a significant moment not only for South Asian representation but also for the celebration of diverse masculinity and identity. True to form, Dosanjh used the global platform to weave his Punjabi heritage into contemporary fashion, proving once again why he remains one of the most influential cross-cultural icons of his generation.
Beyond the red carpet, Dosanjh continues to captivate fans worldwide. His Dil-luminati Tour has been a roaring success across the USA, Canada, and India, solidifying his status as a global performer. Fans now eagerly await his upcoming single "Buck", a high-profile collaboration with K-pop star Jackson Wang, set for release on May 9.
From stadiums to the steps of the Met, Diljit Dosanjh continues to break barriers, turning every appearance into a celebration of culture, identity, and unapologetic individuality.
