Moirangthem Sunita, who hails from Manipur, bagged the Best Playback Singer Award in a competition held in commemoration of the 39th death anniversary of renowned singer, Md. Rafi, which was organised by Mohammad Rafi Memorial Society in Punjab’s Amritsar.
The musical event is organised every year to pay tribute to Mohd Rafi on the occasion of his death anniversary.

The event is a live musical evening in which the singers pay tribute to Mohd Rafi by means of singing their all-time favourite hits.
Moirangthem Sunita, who is currently employed as a music teacher at Delhi Public School, in Sonipat, Haryana, also participated in the competition and enthralled the judges with her . The competition was held at Guru Nanak Bhawan, Amritsar on August 18.
Sunita is an approved artist of All India Radio, Imphal; Doordarshan Kendra, Imphal; and Delhi Doordarshan Kendra.

A resident of Khangabok Sorok Wangma village in Thoubal district of Manipur, Sunita is the daughter of Shyamsunder Singh and Priyosakhi Devi. After winning the prize, Sunita dedicated the award to her parents.
