Kohima, December 6, 2019:

Nicholas Lemtur Kharkongor’s directorial ‘Axone’, which depicts the struggle of Northeast Indians living in metros, was screened as the opening film at GLOCAL - The Hornbill International Film Festival held in Hotel Japfü, Kohima.

The Film Festival was inaugurated by Neiba Kronu, Minister for Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue & Parliamentary Affairs. The two days event has been organized by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Eastern Art Council (EAC) and Department of Tourism.

Calling it a big homecoming, Nicholas Lemtur Kharkongorsaid, “It’s a big homecoming for Axone the movie because this is Nagaland and this is where Axone is made.”

Axone which was premiered in London Film Festival in October and made its debut in India at the Mumbai Film Festival - India’s biggest film festival. The film is yet to be officially released in the theatres.

Kharkongar claimed it is a "funny film" but also a "very serious film" because the attempt was to showcase life as a Northeasterner living outside the region. The film depicts racism, unrequited love, displacement, alienation and various other themes. “Axone is the first Hindi Film with a Northeast theme with Northeast actors, which is something I feel very proud of. All of us should be very proud of,” added Kharkongar.

The Hornbill International Film Festival will screen short films from the North East region, films from Myanmar, as well as the Battle of Kohima.

The concluding day (Friday) spectators will witness screening of ‘Axone’ film again to mark the culmination of the festival.
