Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan has returned to the cinema with 'Hari Hara Veera Mallu', a Telugu entertainer that has been in production for a long time. The film has hit the screens and showed a strong performance in its advance booking. Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi and Jyothi Krishna, the film is set to become the career-best opener for Kalyan.
The response to the film has been massive, recording the second-highest pre-sales business for any Telugu film after 'Pushpa 2: The Rule'. 'Hari Hara Veera Mallu' registered one of the biggest advance sales for any film in India, grossing around Rs 30 crore in pre-sales across all languages for its opening day. The data, provided by trade website Sacnilk, also includes paid premiere shows.
The film's performance in the international market is significant, with over Rs 15 crore gross from overseas advance booking for its opening day. In North America alone, 'Hari Hara Veera Mallu' sold over 18,000 tickets, grossing around Rs 4.50 crore through premiere shows.
The film, which has been in production for five years due to Kalyan's busy political schedule, has grossed around Rs 45 crore in bookings for day one worldwide. The trade industry believes it will open in the range of Rs 40-45 crore in India and have a massive Rs 70 crore opening worldwide. This is remarkable for any film, but 'Hari Hara Veera Mallu' was expected to enjoy such a level of hype.
The film is looking at surpassing the opening collection of 'Vakeel Saab' (Rs 40.50 crore) to become the biggest opener of Kalyan's career. However, maintaining a steady hold after the opening day will depend on good word-of-mouth.
'Hari Hara Veera Mallu' features Pawan Kalyan as the titular character who searches for the Koh-i-Noor diamond and clashes with Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, played by Bobby Deol. The film also stars Nargis Fakhri, Nora Fatehi, Nidhhi Agerwal and Sathyaraj in important roles.
