Assam icon Zubeen Garg during a recent musical performance in Barpeta announced that he will not shave his beard until and unless the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act is scrapped by the BJP-led Central Government.
Urging the concertgoers to raise chants of Joi Aai Axon (glory to mother Assam), Zubeen said that it is a cry that has to be reiterated time and time again to preserve the Assamese identity.

"Zubeen da has become old, the facial hair is turning grey. It's turning grey quickly because of my participation in the revolt (against CAA). Won't shave my beard until the CAA is scrapped", Zubeen resolved, to raucous applause from his fans.
Lashing out at the ruling BJP regime, the crooner claimed that the current Government is running on the basis of money only. "BJP has money....nothing else. It is running on money only. Money cannot run emotions. They will never understand us -- be it the the Modi Government or the Assam Government."

It is to be mentioned here that Zubeen has been spearheading the Assamese artistes' struggle against the CAA. Although the Assam Government has announced ex gratia of Rs. 50,000 to 200 eminent artistes of the State, the community continues to be up-in-arms against the CAA that seeks to naturalize foreigners from 3 neighboring countries.
