Assam: Three elephants killed by poachers inside Manas National Park amid Panchayat election heat

Amid the ongoing political fervor surrounding the Panchayat elections in Assam, a disturbing incident has emerged from Manas National Park.

Three elephants have been found dead in the dense forests of the park, allegedly killed by poachers.

The tragic discovery was made within the jurisdiction of the Panbari Forest Range, near the Palengchi Beat, which lies close to the India-Bhutan international border.

Forest officials suspect that the elephants were killed using poisoned bait or other illegal hunting methods, though a post-mortem examination is awaited to confirm the exact cause.

The location of the incident — deep inside the jungle and near an international boundary — has raised concerns about cross-border poaching networks.

Following the incident, a large team from the Panbari Forest Division rushed to the site and launched an intensive search operation to track down those responsible.

Senior officials of the forest department are camping in the area to monitor the situation and coordinate further action.
