Chirang police arrested seven alleged cyber criminals in a major crackdown on cyber crime. The operation began last Saturday under the jurisdiction of Bijni Police Station.
During the operation, police seized three vehicles: a Tata Tiago (AS 19W 2199), an Alto K10 (AS 01QC 0737), and a Hyundai i20 without a number plate.
They also recovered a micro ATM machine, multiple ATM cards, bank accounts registered under various names, SIM cards, and mobile phones believed to have been used in fraudulent activities.
The arrested individuals are Afsar Uddin (34) from Kawatikar, Bijni; Matleb Ali (37) from No. 1 Dansiapara; Abdul Awal (27); Akher Ali (29); Saddam Hussain (22); Golap Hussain; and Mir Kashem (22) from Farmaishali.
Officials said the operation was part of a larger effort to curb rising incidents of cyber fraud in the region. Police sources confirmed the suspects were allegedly involved in various online financial scams and identity theft operations.
Chirang police have launched a detailed investigation and said more arrests and revelations may follow as the probe progresses.
