I have so many awards at home, and often use them as door-stoppers: Salman Khan

With his 'I-don't-give-a-damn' attitude to the world and speaking the truth, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan recently revealed that his first time attending an awards event was unfortunate.

Salman explains in the viral video how he never goes after receiving awards and often uses them as ‘door stoppers’ in his house.

He said at the conference: “I’ve never been interested in these awards because I’ve seen so many of them at home. Sometimes, if our doors would not open, we would use them as door stoppers. And we would give them away to others if we didn’t find any place for them at home. This is how it is for me. I’ve always lost. I was never interested in awards. Even today, I am not. I am interested in rewards. That’s what I get from my fans and the Hindi film audience.”

The Bajrangi Bhaijaan actor also throws light on the time he was nominated for Maine Pyaar Kiya and how he was guaranteed an award at the 68th Filmfare Awards premiere. When that didn't happen, he made the organizers cough up five times what he would usually charge for a performance.

“I was nominated and the then-Filmfare editor called me to say I will be winning it, and I should come. I went there with my family and the nomination was announced. However, it was Jackie Shroff, who won the award. I was to also perform that night and I was really angry that they lied to me, so I refused to perform. Jackie was damn good but I felt betrayed,” he shared.

The actor claimed that the editor then made a sizable offer to pay him, but he insisted on more money until he settled on five times what the editor had originally proposed. Although the editor instructed the Bajrangi Bhaijaan actor not to discuss it, the actor still informed Juhi Chawla and Akshay Kumar about it.

“I told them I have gotten money, and they should ask for it as well. That was the first time someone paid for a performance. Earlier they would get us to perform by tempting us with awards. Since then, performing has helped us make money,” he said.

The actor spoke to the media at the Filmfare event on Wednesday night while wearing a formal grey suit. Aside from the many statements he made in response to the media's inquiries, one particular point stayed with his supporters, and as a result, the video of him responding to the query is currently trending on social media.

"I was never interested in awards till today I am not, I’m interested in rewards and the reward is what I get from my fans and from Hindi film-going audiences and from the people of our country…the love and respect I get is my reward", he said.
