Secured the first runner-up position in MasterChef India Season 8 contest Meghalaya's Nambie Jessica Marak, popularly known as the tribal chef emphasized to help the village girls along with her to empower financially.
"I have a YouTube channel ‘Eat Your Kappa’, in which I document various foods and cultures of Northeast India," said Nambie.
"In addition, I make various types of pickles at home and export them to different parts of India as well as abroad. Till now I got orders from Singapore, Paris, USA and now I am trying to figure out how I can increase the selling of pickles abroad, and how I will easily export my pickles," emphasized Nambie.
"I aim to empower the women of my village through this business, "When I make pickles for business purposes, I call all the girls of my village, so that they too learn and become financially empowered through this business. Now I hope that after becoming runner-up, many doors will be opened to continue my business. After that I hope more girls and women will be involved with my business".
Belongs to a full of natural beauty and remote village Upper Rangsa (some 30 kms from Boko) under 33 Rambrai-Jyrngam Legislative Assembly constituency of West Khasi Hills (WKH) of Meghalaya along the Assam-Meghalaya border Nambie Jessica Marak regret that there is no road to their village.
"Nevertheless, I have worked very hard and today I am proud to tell India and the world about the food of my state Meghalaya, and North East India," added Nambie.
"I am a city girl, I was born and brought up in Shillong, and studied in other places too but at last I left everything. I returned to my village and settled with my family. Now I am succeeding in spotlighting my village through a huge platform." added Nambie.
"Today my villagers feel proud of me that I have been able to introduce my village to the whole of India and I too feel proud for that also," said Nambie during a felicitation program at Athiabari village.
"Our Meghalaya or North East cuisines are very unfamiliar with the rest of India and rest of the world and I got opportunities that I was able to showcase of our amazing and brilliant cooking methods, so I feel proud," added Nambie during an interaction.
After securing the first runner-up position in MasterChef India, Nambie was invited to participate in the program 'Viksit Bharat Sankalpa Yatra', a central government scheme at Athyibari village along the Assam Meghalaya Border in WKH District M'laya on Thursday evening.
MLA of Rambrai Jyngram constituency R G Momin, ADC WKH District B Swer, Mawsynrut Block Development Officer R Kharkongor took part as chief guests along with other officials and dignitaries were present in the program.
As soon as Nembi Marak arrived at the venue, the locals cheered and created a bustling atmosphere. Nambie was being felicitated by chef guests and the public of the area.
