Rohit Shetty is back with his most ambitious project yet—Singham Again, where Ajay Devgn reprises his role as the iconic Bajirao Singham. This time, he’s not alone, as Shetty assembles a star-studded cast that includes Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, and Tiger Shroff.
The trailer, which dropped on Monday, October 7, promises a spectacle-packed Diwali release, merging the action genre with a mythological twist, all while Shetty’s signature style of high-octane car crashes and larger-than-life heroes dominate the screen.
The trailer instantly grabs attention, with “Shetty’s world where swanky cars will be crashed, the goons will be thrashed, and heroes will look more heroic than ever.” However, it’s not just about star power this time. With Singham Again, Shetty has aimed higher, pulling off what could be considered “the biggest casting coup of the industry,” second only to Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om. The film boasts six of Bollywood’s biggest stars united for a common cause—a first for Shetty, but also a potentially risky move.
At nearly five minutes long, the trailer sets the tone for an action-packed ride across India, “right from Kashmir to Kanyakumari,” but it also leaves you wondering if it might have given away too much. “At one point in the trailer, when you have met all the stars, admire their action potential, the drama that they ensue and have understood their aim, you also wonder if it's boasting too much of everything?” While it certainly excites with its non-stop action and dramatic entrances, it could rob viewers of those whistle-worthy moments in the cinema.
One of the film's most daring elements is its inspiration from Ramayana, where Shetty reimagines his ensemble cast as mythological characters. Ajay Devgn embodies Lord Ram, with Kareena Kapoor Khan as Sita, Ranveer Singh as Hanuman, and Tiger Shroff stepping into the shoes of Laxman.
Akshay Kumar, who made his mark with Sooryavanshi, takes on the role of Jatayu. This concept “looks interesting on paper,” but Shetty walks a fine line: “Using mythology or any religion-based story as the basis of your film is like walking on a double-edged sword.”
There’s no denying the buzz surrounding Singham Again. The film promises to be a visual extravaganza, powered by the sheer magnetism of its leading stars. However, “while the audience will put their 100 per cent faith in the directorial prowess of Rohit Shetty,” the question remains—will it deliver more than just glossy visuals? As the trailer reveals so much, the onus will be on the narrative to maintain the excitement.
After all, “great stardom has to come with a great story.” Fingers crossed for what could be a blockbuster, or a risky leap.
