4.5 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Indo-Myanmar Borderearthquake

Guwahati, December 2, 2019:

A mild-intensity earthquake measuring 4.5 on the richter scale shook the Indo-Myanmar region early in the morning at  on Monday.

The earthquake originated around 10 kms away from Myanmar capital Burma, at a depth of around 54 kms.

According to reports, the earthquake which hit the region at around 06:42 am, did not cause any damage to life or property.

The countries of Bangladesh, India, and Myanmar were jolted by the earthquake. In the Indian side of the border, the impact was felt in Mizoram.

It may be mentioned here that the Northeast region has been impacted by earthquakes in recent times. Recently, on November 21, a medium intensity earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale has hit Assam, and other parts of the Northeast today.

According to the reports, the tremors were felt in Guwahati and other parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and adjoining areas of the northeastern region at about 7.42 pm.

The earthquake had its epicentre 55 kms WSW of Guwahati, the largest city in the State, and originated 48 kms below the earth’s surface.
