In the latest development in Iraq, as many as seven Islamic State (IS) militants were killed on Sunday in security operation and airstrikes by the U.S.-led coalition in the northern Iraqi province of Nineveh.
The media office of the Joint Operations Command (JOC) in a statement stated that a joint force from the Iraqi army and paramilitary tribal fighters conducted a search operation in the south of the provincial capital Mosul which is about 400 km north of Baghdad, killing four Islamic State militants and destroying four of their hideouts and two explosive vests.
In another operation west of Mosul near the border with Syria, three IS militants were killed and 19 hideouts were destroyed in an airstrike carried out by U.S.-led coalition aircraft. The troops on the ground seized a vehicle and two motorcycles used by IS militants, as stated in the statement.

The security situation in Iraq was considerably improved after Iraqi security forces fully defeated the extremist IS militants across the country late in 2017.
However, IS remnants are carrying out frequent guerrilla attacks against both security forces and civilians in many areas across the country.
