Australia's Killing of 10,000 Camels amid Forest Fire Sparks Worldwide Outrage

Guwahati, January 9, 2020:

In an absurd decision, the Australian government has given permission to kill as many as 10,000 feral camels in 5 days following the drought caused by the forest fire in the region.

Snipers took to helicopters in Australia on Wednesday to kill the feral camels via air operations.

Following this, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has condemned the decision and in a tweet, it said, “This is ABSURD. A new tactic has emerged to "help" the devastation from #Australia's bush fires: shoot & kill thirsty camels searching for water. Over one billion animals have already died — this senseless act will only add fuel to the #AustraliaFires.”

Meanwhile, outraged Somalis are urging Australians to stop culling camels, and to instead send the animals to the Horn of Africa so that they can look after them.

Australia is engulfed in bushfires and is reportedly running out of the water to control it.

The authorities are killing thousands of feral camels in South Australia to stop the animals from drinking water in the drought-ravaged region.

The camels were first introduced to Australia in the 1840s to aid in the exploration of the continent’s vast interior. Nearly 20,000 camels were imported from India in the six decades that followed.
