The Bangladesh government has sought a written assurance from the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government that the immigrants would not be pushed back across the border post-enactment of the Citizenship Amendment Act.
A similar demand was put forward by the Bangladesh government during Sheikh Hasina’s private visit to India in October, months after publication of NRC in Assam.

Reportedly, the Indian government that has been verbally assuring the neighbouring country not to send the foreigners excluded from NRC to Bangladesh, had refused to give any written assurance. In its counter reply, the Indian government stated that the NRC exercise was carried out as per directions of the Supreme Court.
According to reports, the political leadership in Bangladesh fear that the Muslim immigrants might be pushed back by India detected illegal under the Act, across the border.
It is to be mentioned here that the Citizenship (Amendment) Act will provide citizenship to six non-Muslim communities from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. This has triggered mass protests all across India, especially in Assam and Tripura of North East.
