Bangladesh Worker in Singapore Afflicted with Coronavirus, Family Receives $10,000 Donation

Singapore, February 24, 2020:

A 39-year-old man from Bangladesh currently working in Singapore was tested positive for the novel coronavirus on February 8.

Now, an NGO has stepped in to help the afflicted worker's family deal with the tragic news. The man's has received $10,000 as a donation via telegraphic bank transfer by the Migrant Workers’ Centre (MWC).

The Bangladesh worker who was staying at The Leo dormitory in Kaki Bukit, was considered to be Singapore's case number 42.

The MWC posted in Facebook page today that it has been "a distressing period of time for his family as he is the sole breadwinner".

The centre initiated and contacted his family through his employer shortly after he was hospitalised, and has been providing them with required updates on his condition.

"We hope that the timely updates could offer them some comfort and solace during this period of time," the MWC added in a statement.

The centre clearly said that the donated amount of money, $10,000, considerably an assistance package is meant to help and support the worker's family financially and to take care of the needs and urgent purchases or payments associated with daily expenses of the infected worker.

The Government is said to take charge of the cost of the worker's medical treatment during his stay in hospital. It may also be mentioned that four other Bangladeshi workers have also been infected with the coronavirus.
