The United States has recorded over 2,000 deaths in just one day following the coronavirus disease according to the Coronavirus Resource Center at the John Hopkins University.
The US, which has now becomes the country with the highest cases of coronavirus in the world, has registered 2,108 fatalities in the past 24 hours.
The US has now recorded 18,586 deaths, a close second to Italy, which has recorded 18,849 deaths, the most fatalities in the world so far. The US has also recorded more than half a million confirmed cases, with over 35,000 fresh cases in the past 24 hours.
The deadly coronavirus has claimed as many as 5,820 lives in New York City, making it the worst-hit city followed by Nassau, which reported 723 fatalities so far. Whereas, Michigan's Wayne recorded 609 deaths till now. Suffolk, Illinois, Bergen, Westchester, Essex are the cities in which over 300 people lost their lives due to coronavirus.

The US has now led the world in the number of infections since the end of March. With the current trend, it threatens to overtake Europe, which has recorded over 850,000 cases.
While the US has the most number of cases in the world (nearly 29% of total cases), Italy tops the death toll chart with 18.7% of total deaths. Spain is second in terms of the number of cases (158,273), it is third behind Italy and the US in the number of deaths.
In the US, New York state is world-affected with more than 6,000 deaths out of which 5,820 have been recorded in New York City alone. Out of the total COVID-19 cases in the US, 26,645 have recovered from the disease.

Globally, 376,200 infected patients have recovered. The top 10 countries in terms of the number of cases are US - 500,399, Spain - 158,273, Italy - 147,577, France - 125,931, Germany - 122,171, China - 82,971, United Kingdom - 74,605, Iran - 68,192, Turkey - 47,029, Belgium - 26,667.
The ten countries with the highest number of deaths are Italy - 18,849, US - 18,586, Spain - 16,081, France - 13,197, United Kingdom - 8,958, Iran - 4,232, China - 3,340, Belgium - 3,019, Germany - 2,736, Netherlands - 2,511.
It may be mentioned here that the pandemic has taken a toll on the world with more than 195 countries affected by it. India has crossed the 6000-mark with more than 169 deaths as on Saturday.
