WASHINGTON: Former US President Donald Trump sought his successor Joe Biden's resignation over the withdrawal of the U.S. troops from Afghanistan and Taliban's takeover of the country.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Trump said that it was time for the US president to 'resign in disgrace', "for what he has allowed happening in Afghanistan, along with the tremendous surge in Coronavirus (Covid-19), the Border catastrophe, the destruction of energy Independence, and our crippled economy."

He went on to add that it "shouldn't be a big deal" since, according to him, Biden "wasn't elected legitimately in the first place."

Trump's statement comes after the Afghanistan government collapsed on Sunday as the Taliban entered into Kabul and assumed control of the Afghan capital.

Also, there have been claims that the movement soon will proclaim the re-establishment of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

Reportedly, the White House Advisors have been in talks on how President Joe Biden should address this crisis.
